Regifting - It's that time of year.

While reading The Thrifty Picker's blog,
 http://thethriftypicker.blogspot.com/2011/11/seasons-are-changin.html,hi
I saw the vintage bun warmer. (Rachael said I could post her picture, and I will try at the end of the post.)

My ex-husband and I received this as a wedding gift in 1975. While we sort of laughed at the gift at the time, it actually was a handy gift. We used it to heat our hamburger and hot dog buns. As newlyweds, we ate a lot of those. Plus, this was before the days of microwaves to heat things.

What does this have to do with regifting, you ask? When we used it for the first time, we found a wedding card inside with best wishes from people we didn't know. Gasp. We were the beneficiaries of a regift!

What I've never told anyone before until now - breaking news - is this gift was from my ex-husband's best friend and wife. They were married the year before we were. We lived in the same town and socialized for years. I mean, they were our couples best friend, if you know what I mean. The guys would do stuff and the wife and kids would do stuff with my kids and me.

These were the friends that we could call at the drop of a hat - there's an old expression for you - and we'd have a dinner. She would bring whatever leftovers she had and we'd put ours with them. And yes, she also had a bun warmer - which is why I'm sure she regifted it.

Moral of the story: If you're thinking about regifting, check those boxes carefully for enclosed cards or stray pieces of wrapping paper.

Second moral of the story: There are worse things you can do, so don't let something like this interfere with a friendship.

On a sad note for me: I will be taking a bloggy break. I have a lot going on right now. My parents need me more, plus I need to get them ready for their winter stay in Florida. (I hope my mom is well enough to go.) I'll still be reading your blogs when I can fit it in, but maybe not commenting as much. I hope to have more time in January, once I have my parents settled in The Villages.

Happy Thanksgiving ~ Merry Christmas ~ Happy New Year!
