Plant Stands

Do you have house plants?

Sometimes I wish I didn't. These belonged to my mom. When my parents downsized into a retirement house, I inherited her plants. My mom really enjoyed her plants. Me? Not so much. My method is to water them infrequently and ignore them most of the time.

This isn't really about the plants but about the stands that hold them.

This is a vintage stool that I painted orange. It was in my classroom for years, stationed beside the overhead. Sometimes, I even got to sit on it.

What's funny about this is none of my teacher friends would ever sit on it. They called it torture. Now I do not have a small "bum", as Cate would say, so I guess all my extra padding made this seat comfortable for me. Plus I was always just perched on its edge. It is the perfect size for a plant.

This high chair was used by my two brothers, me, and the grandchildren. I don't know what happened to the tray. I inherited this, too, when my folks downsized. I wanted to find a way to use it, so I decided it could also hold a plant.

Isn't that a sweet picture? The high chair is 65 years old.

For those of you who are interested in plants, the Christmas cactuses cacti bloom each year, even with my negligent nurturing.

Check out this post I read just before I posted mine. I love it when I find myself thinking like another blogger.

If you have plants, how do you decorate with them?

At first I thought you meant that none of the other teachers would sit in the highchair and I'm like...Duh! I had a REALLY old highchair/antique. Used to keep stuffed animals in it.
Also got rid of some beautiful oak plant stands.
As for plants...I am sooooo over them. Outside only now. But I have decorated the ones inside with ornament and such at Christmas.

We have a wooden high chair in my family that is very similar to yours. It's currently in use at my youngest sister's house, since she runs a daycare. My dad was the first to use the chair as a baby 65 years ago. His three siblings used it, and then it seated all five of my dad's babies. Next, my two babies used it; then B's two babies. Finally, L's two babies and all her daycare goobers. It's been refinished and repaired numerous times over the years, but the original graphics on the back are still there.
As for house plants...I love them, but do NOT have a green thumb. My MIL used to be my plant doctor, but since she went to heaven, my poor plants just have to survive on their own. Most of them used to live in our bathroom, where the skylight provided the perfect place for them. Now that the House Project has moved to that area of the house, the plants had to be moved. They are surviving on a bench in front of an east window. Someday I hope to place them in various rooms around the house again. Plants give life to a room!

That is how I take care of our plants too. They become drought tolerant, but really do better when I remember to water them. I have used an old high chair for a plant stand too, though currently a doll is sitting in it.

One year I baby-sat my SIL Christmas cactus and they sure are rewarding when they bloom, aren't they?

Hope you have a wonderful week, Grammy!

I ignore and neglect much in life, but not my plants inside or out.

I inherited my mother's "Green Fingers," as they say in England - and, well, I would actually hear the plants complain if I still my inner self well enough. Honestly, I even sing to them - when I am not having a coughing fit from this danged won't-it-EVER-go-away Whooping Cough illness.

Anyway, I LOVE your plant stands.

I keep mine mostly on a large fancy Tuscan metal and glass bakers rack in the SW part of the house where it gets bright but not direct light. And I cut them down and back a lot to make cuttings and am consistently giving them away in pretty pots as gifts.

I have no space for neato nifty stands like yours, but you have certainly used wisely some family treasures, indeed! LOVE the ideas!

I have an old high chair that was used by my Mom and all her siblings. I used it and most of my cousins sat in it. Both of my children had a turn in this chair also. I will have it for my Grands and then pass it on. It does hold a plant right now!

The high chair in our flat is currently holding a two year old. Good for him I'm better with him than I am with plants.

Great plant stands...like the idea. I don't need any though as indoor plants die with me. If they can't live on air..........forget it.

How nice to have some plant stands with such personal and meaningful stories. Maybe you'll eventually even start to enjoy the plants that sit on them!?

Believe it or not....the leading thing that people do to kill plants is over water, so you are correct in ignoring them!!! lol
