Dirty Laundry Secret

I promise this will be my last laundry room post.

When I chose my laundry room as my first project for the year, I really wanted to get rid of my stuff vintage goodies. But, if you read yesterday's post, you must have noticed I put it all back on the shelf.

While I was reading blogs instead of starting another do on my to do list, I realized how much I didn't want that stuff in there. I only kept it because of the money spent on that collection. I decided that a new look was worth forgetting that past money.

(Are you holding on to clutter for the same reason?)

I knew all I needed was a box and fortunately, there was one waiting for me in the garage. (I say fortunately because today is garbage day.) Unfortunately, it was filled with those darn peanut things.

I brought it in the house so I could put it in a plastic bag - I might need it again, right? Then I remembered I had seen a zipper bag so back out to the garage I went. But then I remembered that bag would be great to store a bedspread.
I digress.

I found a paper bag and put the peanuts in it. (Twenty-five handsful, if anyone was counting.) And, I decided to donate it to the art department when I visit my former school Friday.

Those things really stick.

Back to the laundry room. I filled up the now empty box, well, it was empty when I started. Now it has all this junk vintage stuff.

Here is the clean, uncluttered look I wanted.

Well, it's uncluttered on the days I'm not doing laundry. (How funny that hubby's tshirt matches my new color.)

If you read yesterday's post ~ and I hope you did ~ you must wonder how tshirts made the white hangers. That's because they'll come off the hangers so I can fold them when they're dry.

The Merry Maids and other sprinklers went in the box, too.
Doesn't the window sill look so much cleaner now?

PS - If anyone wants some vintage goodies, make me an offer. Seriously not kidding.

Good for you!!! I know how hard it is to downsize our collections but when they no longer give us joy then it's time to move on. I love the clean look. I'm sure someone would love to have those vintage items so I bet you can sell them. hugs, Linda

I have been chucking some "stuff" too just because I don't want to deal with it anymore. :) Grammy, you are so funny! When I first looked on your shelf I wondered why a box of viagra would be up there. :) hehe. I love to wander the aisles of Lowe's too. Looking for fun stuff to use in another way. Some of the girls on the decor blogs are really good at that.

If you do not want them in the laundry room, I would find a place to keep them. These are definitely vintage and hard to find.

Wow, you did a wonderful job! It would be fun to do laundry in there. I really like how you used the handkerchiefs.

Our laundry room needs painting and organizing so badly (it doubles as the dogs bedroom), but I have some other things to do before that.

Thanks for the inspiration, Grammy!

Isn't it nice to do a little cleaning up to feel refreshed...in the midst of it all it can be overwhelming, and seem to get worse before it gets better, but then when it is done it is such an accomplishment! I'll be doing this same sort of thing to my apt. once I get back to LA!

Could I hire you to come help me clean and organize? Bet you wouldn't want the job when you saw the stacks of fabric and bits of this and that needing to find a nice place on a shelf. You are doing a great job accomplishing your task. I am trying to get motivated to do it. Then, I need to paint the laundry room and fix it up like you are doing.------Shannon

I'm honestly a little jealous of your laundry room. It's so nice and clean now. Mine is in my basement and I tend to let it go. Lots of cobwebs and little dust bunnies. Anyway, great job and I'm proud of you for cutting the clutter!

Haha...i realized i havent commented on this one, didnt notice it is laundry room part 2. My dear friend i wish i could be as immaculate as you. i was so so inspired by you to clean the house but it only lasted one morning. I was cheating here and there and it wasn't so clean after all. But i was quite successful with de-cluttering tho, i have no problem getting rid of things. Congrats to you on getting a good wife award part 2.

Wow, what a transformation! I am impressed.

To be honest, the reason I am holding on to clutter is that the thought of getting rid of it overwhelms me. It might work if I broke it down room by room, or even section by section, but the thought of taking it down the stairs and out to the trash, little by little...

Well, so far, that has stopped me cold! :)
