Auction Fail

When we lived in Frederick County, hubby and I loved going to auctions. Our favorites were the ones held in the yard of the homeowners. There was always a church with a trailer set up to sell food.

The menu always included country ham biscuits, hot dogs, and homemade desserts.

(I know that's not a picture of ham biscuits, but when I searched for a picture I found this one of a country ham. What makes it funny was I found it on a Christian website. I told you these were sold on church food trailers, right?)

There were old timers who could tell me what the truly vintage items were and how they had some just like them at home. (I love talking to people.) There were young people, just starting out, looking for bargains. Then there were people like us, just out to have a good time - and eat a country ham biscuit!

Since we've moved to Roanoke, we haven't found any auctions like that. Imagine our excitement when we saw a sign for an auction as we were out yard saling a few months ago. We eagerly parked the car and walked several blocks to the house where the auction was being held.

Yes, I read the sign, but only the large bold print. Then we walked all around the house, looking for items of interest. The old timers were definitely there. But, where were the boxes of dishes and linens to pay through look through? Where was the furniture?  Most important of all, where was the  food trailer?

Here are pictures of what we did see.

We sadly walked back to our car and continued on our yard sale search

How anticlimactic for you! I can't wait until we've found a house and move out of temporary, then I can start hitting the yard sales again to fill it. :)

Cool items. Water shows are big deal in Utah now days. I don't know why all of a sudden, but they are at every major Mall Plaza. I love them.

I didn't know people held auctions like that. And I did not know or remember that you lived in Roanoke. One of my dear friends lived there. I also have a blogger Lisa who lives there - do you follow her or want her name? sandie

The vast majority of auctions around my area are old farms or households, and almost always have the church folks selling food. I haven't been to an auction in years...except to help sell that aforementioned food! I'd rather go to yard sales, where I can peruse the goods and get what I want right away and go home when I'm finished, rather than have to wait and wait and wait for the ONE thing I want.

Isn't it funny how different parts of the country do different things? I remember going to New Orleans and there were no espresso stands or even real 1/2 and 1/2 for the regular coffee.

Maybe you guys should be the trendsetters and set an action up yourselves and show folks what they are missing!

Loved the old cars and the gas pump though.

What you did not want to buy a hole in the road...to pour you money into...(the old fix 'm up cars.) Pretty cool for someone. I'm with you.

Bummer. I *love* auctions too. Around here (western pa) it's not a real auction without kielbasa & sauerkraut...every time I smell that smell, I just want to start bidding on something. ;)

I would have cried at the absence of the food trailer. :o) I am not an auction-goer but would love to give it a try sometime...hope all is well. Have a lovely Sunday.

auctions are really exciting! You can find a lot of cool stuff that you can bid for lowest price! Anyway, have you tried online auction? Try it, if you have time.
