It's not as easy as you said it was.

Welcome to my world. I try. I really do. I read all of your blogs and the  tutorials that tell me I, too, can do what you've done. I try to tell you that I don't think I can, but you reassure me that it's possible.

So, I saved some jars to paint. I thought I could paint the jar orange, the lid green, and have myself a pumpkin to fill with candy corn. Pretty basic, huh?

Here is my jar on my workbench wheelbarrow, waiting for its spray job. Everything looks better when spray painted, right? That's what all of you say.

See the lids I spray painted tried to paint.

After it dried, I noticed that I had missed some spots, but the can of paint was empty.

No problem. I had another can I could use and this one was specifically for ceramics. That should work better, right? I sprayed another jar.

I'm not sure why I tried a different workbench, but you can see that I moved this jar to the bag of mulch before spraying. Does that look orange to you? Yeah, me neither. Any ideas for a red jar for Christmas?

Do you see the direction the nozzle is pointing in this picture? If I pushed it right now, you would get a face full of paint. How do I know this? Do you really have to ask?

If you look very closely, you will see my patch of orange hair. Yes. I really did point it in the wrong direction and sprayed myself. Fortunately, instinct kicked in and I did close my eyes.

I think I will stick to writing about my Goodwill buys and leave the crafting to the rest of you.

OMG! Now THAT is funny!!! We all have these same experiences! Press on! It's only the beginning.

Here is my most important recommendation. TOOLS. It is all about the tools. If you are going to spray something....have a full can of spray paint. One layer never gets it. I usually need to put two or three, so the only mistake here was not having enough orange paint.

Also..... Have a nicer place to do these things! Treat yourself to an outdoor area for projects with a few drop cloths. You deserve it!!

I am not giving up on you!!!!! You hear me??!!!

Don't give up on the crafting. It's fun, and I have so many messed up projects that I have never posted. It just takes practice over and over. This is why I am making wreaths out of junk mail---almost free materials for crafting.

I'm laughing and I hope it's with you not at you. I am so klutzy at crafts I seldom try and now I know why! Yep back to the Goodwill for me also!
hugs,
Linda

Don't give up! You will get the hang of it after some practice. Find something that you would really enjoy and because it will be fun, you'll be more apt to accomplish the project. If you don't mind, I'll give you some advice. Next time you use spray paint be sure to wear a shower cap!! Heehee. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself)----- Shannon

I have inhaled so much spray paint, I'm convinced it's the cause of this ongoing respiratory illness I've had for the past month. That stuff is scary, but I swear I was outside using it yesterday ... this time I actually held my breath, sprayed, ran away, breathed, then repeated until I got the small basket painted. Don't give up, we can all go on oxygen together in a few years :)

At least you gave it a try! And keep trying - but try different things. If spray paint isn't your thing, then try something else! :)

Stick to what you know (Goodwill-like me) And whatever you do, do NOT go to get a spray tan.

haha...you're so funny, it's ok... at least you tried. It happens to everybody. IT's a good thing the orange paint to get into your eyes!

Haha sorry to laugh, but it's only because this SO resembles all of my craft and/or baking projects. Why do some people make it look so easy?

Hah! Totally diy empathy for ya! Oh! And on more than one occasion I have also gotten spray paint in my hair, and possibly in my mouth. Gross! Ahh well, happens to the best of us. Happy Halloween! xox!

Ha! Oh my gosh, sorry you got it in the face but what a funniest home video that would have made if it was caught on camera!

What about adding some holly to your red jar and making it a little festive flower decor?!

Oh - that is my greatest fear, spraying myself in the face! I've come so close.....this is so cute and I had to chuckle out loud (not because you got some spray paint on your hair) but because you just have such fun posts. And, please don't stop crafting! I just finished a post and when I previewed it I saw that part of it was warped!

Hahaha. This sounds exactly like how some of my projects go. Then I usually decide I am not meant to craft but I am usually back at it again within a few hours. Thanks for sharing such a great story - I hope the actual experience wasn't too discouraging. These things happen to everyone (well, to me at least).
