Isn't this a great treasure?
I couldn't believe my luck when I saw it at a yard sale.
I knew I had to have it.
When hubby asked me what it was, I confessed that I didn't know.
We both agreed it was too small for a stick of butter,
but I thought it could hold an individual pat.
I remember when my debutante cousin was married,
I was allowed to see the gift tables.
I still remember the table that was set with her china, crystal, and silver.
There were individual salt cellars.
Why not individual butter dishes?
While I don't remember seeing these,
I imagine she must have had a service for 12.
I looked on ebay but couldn't find anything that matched my treasure.
I'm sure you can think of ways I can use this charming piece of silver.
Please excuse the quality of my pictures.
I haven't been able to fix my camera yet.
While I wasn't able to meet up with any other "thrifty bloggers",
I am happy to link this with Rhoda.

I don't know what it's for but it's shiny and pretty!
Hi Grammy,
I believe it may be for the European sizes of butter - theirs is cut differently than ours. When you go to the store next time- if you have large stores - look for and buy some imported butter to see what I mean. (Plus is is just delicious!)
Nice treasure for sure!!
Don't have a clue as to what it is but I sure like it. It is a great find.
Maybe it could hold slices of lemon for your iced tea.
I don't know what it is either, but it's shiny and pretty and that's good enough for me. :)
Oh cute and you can use it for so many things! :) hugs, Linda
No matter what it was for, it sure is pretty!
Oh I love it,but have no clue HA! Great score though.
It has to be an individual butter dish, given the glass insert. Very cool!
Very pretty! I am curious to know its use. If you find out, let us know.
Thanks for the roof information. If things go as planned and the weather holds, we may be getting a partial new roof today.
I can confirm that your find is a definitely a butter dish. I'm from Germany and we used our silver butter dish only during "fancy" dinners. The rest of the time the butter was served in a porcelain dish...same shape though. And then they invented margarine that came in a tub :)
What a sweet little treasure. I agree it for butter, but think of the possibilities. Maybe a ring holder or other small pieces of jewelry.
It's SO cute! I'd use it as a ring holder, myself.
Looks like you have lots of good guesses. I'd also go with a butter dish of some sort, but like the idea about using it on a dresser for jewelry as another use.
Ohh..i thought it look like a butter dish...you could be right about it being an individual dish. But i can see it as a little tray for holding little things like paper clips or keys. Great find!
