Have you been to Murphy, NC?

Have you ever been to Murphy, NC?
Last week my parents and I traveled over 700 miles
in two days as we visited Murphy and the
John C. Campbell Folk School.

We spent a very quick 30 minutes downtown.
I was only able to snap a few pictures
before my Dad rushed us off.

Murphy, North Carolina, is the county seat of Cherokee County located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Murphy is an old town with its origin dating back to 1839. Downtown is beautiful with tree lined streets and many historic buildings restored to their original state. Murphy has restaurants, many unique shops, and other interesting establishments all within walking distance in the heart of town. Recreational activities are unlimited from local trout streams to mountain biking. Hiwassee Lake is considered one of the most beautiful in the state. Murphy offers something for every sports enthusiast.
If you are looking for a beautiful small town in the mountains, look no further. Murphy with its population of 1700 people resembles a Norman Rockwell painting. It is indeed, small town life at the very best.

I enjoy reading these signs, but usually we're
driving by them too fast to catch what they say.

I liked the looks of this cafe,
but unfortunately nothing opened until 10:00 a.m.

Have you ever seen a red mailbox?
Neither had I.
This was actually a depository for
worn and tattered U.S. flags.

As you can see, this is a service
provided by the Marine Corps.

While I appreciate these memorials,
they always make me sad for the lives that were lost.

On a lighter note, I took this picture for my friend.
Pink and green are her sorority colors.

This is the only picture I took at the
John C. Campbell Folk School.

I loved the colors of the leaves.

If you have the chance to visit Murphy, NC,
I'm sure you would enjoy the trip.

What a wonderful travel writer you are! And thank you so much for noticing the pink and green bench! That would look so cute on my porch.
