Poison Ivy

I thought I didn't catch poison ivy.
I was wrong.

After working in the yard,
I saw two places on my leg.
I started applying calomine lotion
and pretty much forgot about them.

Several nights later, I scratched my chin.
That didn't relieve the itch.
I looked in the mirror
and thought I could see redness along my chin.

I still wasn't worried.
I have fairly good control.
I applied calomine lotion and went to bed.

When I woke up the next morning,
I could see my cheek!
(You just looked down to see if you could
see your cheek, didn't you?)
I knew this wasn't good, so I called the doctor.

I was given a shot and two prescriptions.
I thought all would be fine.

While the itching was relieved,
taking the prednisone for a week was very hard.
It made me feel so dizzy and uncomfortable.

This has curtailed my work in the yard.
You can believe I will be very careful next time I
go out to pull weeds.
I think I got poison ivy on my shirt and
then wiped my face with the shirt.

I also learned from my doctor
that calomine lotion doesn't heal poison ivy.
It only relieves that itchy feeling.
A cold washcloth could do the same.

Be careful out there, Ladies.

This is dreadful...my principal has had poison ivy for a week. It just keeps spreading. She didn't go to the dr. though. You were so smart to get it taken care of. I've been on prednisone before and it's not fun. Get some rest if you can and try to enjoy your weekend!

Oy - I hope you're better today! We don't have poison ivy in our area, but we have a lot of poison oak. I have so far escaped getting it on me.
