Memories

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the thirty-fifth President of the United States, was assassinated at 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time (18:30 UTC) on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was fatally shot while traveling with his wife Jacqueline, Texas governor John Connally, and the latter's wife, Nellie, in a Presidential motorcade.

I was in fifth grade (public school). I can't remember if we were sent home, but I do remember my mom insisting I watch the funeral. She told me it was history in the making.

The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred on January 28, 1986, when Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, leading to the deaths of its seven crew members. The spacecraft disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of central Florida at 11:38 am EST (16:38 UTC).

My son was in second grade. I remember being thankful that he was in a church school where I knew they would pray as soon as they heard.

The September 11 attacks (called September 11, September 11th or 9/11),[nb 1] were a series of four coordinated suicide attacks against targets in New York and Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger jets.[2][3] The hijackers intentionally crashed two planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City; both towers collapsed within two hours. Hijackers crashed a third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. When passengers attempted to take control of the fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, it crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, preventing it from reaching its intended target in Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 died in the attacks.[4][5][6]

I was teaching 8th grade, and we were in a team meeting. The custodian came by and told us to turn on the television.

I pray for the families of those innocent people who lost their lives that day.

And, I pray that none of us will have any more memories like these.

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

Great post. It's true, you remember exactly where you were at moments like these.

We live about 30 minutes from Shanksville, PA - where flight 93 went down - it really made the whole day all the more harrowing.

I hope there are no more tragedies like this, but unfortunately, the closer we get to Jesus' return, the worse things will get here on earth.

Not to be a Debbie Downer or anything. ;)

Good post my friend. I think we all remember where we were on that tragic day last year. I, too, pray that nothing like that happens every again. I pray that good will overcome the dreadful evil that exists in the world.

Those events are in our minds forever. 9/11 is the worst as far as I am concerned. Something so eveil and calculated that took so many lives. Great post.

I will never forget the unforgettable. All tragic events. I'd add Columbine to my list; I lived close by at the time.
